JT Beggs has been making our studios micaceous clay, coiling pottery, managing the classes and workshops and living in La Madera for the past 7 years. He is a student of Martin Prechtel, a number of old time shepherd matriarchs of the Navajo Nation and of course was a student of our late maestro of Owl Peak Studio: Felipe Ortega. These influences and voices permeate his teaching, workshops and orientation towards pottery as well as stewardship and production of the clay here at Owl Peak. His cookware forms and pottery are inspired and informed mostly by our late teacher and the geography and culture of New Mexico, but also by travels and studies of micaceous pottery abroad including Aegean Turkey and Greece, Mexico, North Africa and more.
